Increasing shelf life by
optimizing MAP packaging

Most foods simply do not use the best materials or films in their packaging – including MAP, non-MAP, perishable, confectionary and other product packaging. Most companies haven't tried to optimize their packaging fully because; traditionally, it was too hard, took too long, was too unreliable and simply costs too much. Which is a shame as getting it right extends some product's shelf lives by up to 800%.
Versaperm has developed a new multi-chamber mass-spectroscopy based instrument that helps you solve the problem by measuring the permeability not just for water vapour but for any vapour, carrier gas or mixture of gases, all at the same time. Because packaging manufacturing processes can easily change the permeability of a material by a factor of four, the system has been designed to work on filled, complete, sealed packs as well as on flat sample materials.
This, combined, with the raft of new materials, laminating and deposition techniques, makes it possible to custom-design the perfect packaging material for your product – which can dramatically extend product life as well as preserve enhanced freshness and taste.
Now you can measure the permeability of all of the important vapours with one measurement using the new Versaperm mass spectroscopy system. Not only that, but the equipment is easy to use, accurate and fast – accuracies are typically in the PPM (Parts per million) range can be achieved in as little as 30 minutes for some vapours and materials.
The equipment allows you to measure the concentrations of oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapour directly, along with all other legally permitted gases.
A huge range of films and materials are used to wrap up food and keep it fresh. Getting it right dramatically extends the food's shelf life and boosts its freshness. Getting it wrong can do exactly the opposite.
A permeability measurement service is also available directly from Versaperm - often with a 24 hour turn around.
